I liked the overall interface of Magento. It was easy to navigate and look up order history.

There were times when it ran extremely slow or timed out.

Magento is a jack of all trades, where it lets you add the inventory, have customer profiles, and even streamlined emailing processes.

Out of the box Magento is pretty neat for a small business. It can set up your products and categories pretty easily, and makes it easy to add seo data like meta descriptions and keywords in a text box. No major knowledge of html is needed.

As a search analyst the search configuration is very limited. We were able to utilize the SOLR platform, but only by weighting attribute fields in a 1 - 5 basis. Also, there is no major thesaurus library, everything must be done on a per term basis. Same with URL redirects.

I did not work for the company before they had switched to this platform. I came from a company that used Oracle Endeca. Endeca had many more available options for the search world.

Our company tries to personalize products and the system makes it easy for that to happen. Also several customer service agents are able to work out of the system at once.

No problems so far, but new to the software so still getting used to it.

If you run a multi-store with thousands of SKU"s - it's really your only bet. It's the only e-commerce platform that will not hold you back from your "what if's" (assuming, of course, you have the money to pay the developers to execute the "what if" dreams)

We've operated a multi-store Magento company for nearly 9 years. Unlike fine wine, it does not age well. With every update, every extension, every passing month - it begins to deteriorate or dysfunction. If one developer made a mistake in the base code 7 years ago - you'll feel it for years.

It's the only platform for multi-stores with thousands of SKU's - everybody's else requires we split our shops apart, pay per/shop bills, etc.

It comes with a lot of functionality right out of the box.

The marketplace software around Magento is weak and difficult to work with. Magento doesn't patch their updates well.

They provide us with an out of the box ecommerce solution on day 1.

Very powerful e-commerce platform, does everything that you could want. Managing customers, orders, products, and content is simple and straightforward. It's intuitive enough that new employees can just pick it up and run with it.

Frustrating reporting options, dashboard is only good for seeing the last 24 hours. Anything more complicated will require exporting data to another program. It is also difficult to get things to integrate with the platform, often you will need Magento, the new software, and then a third party software just to integrate the two to a simple extent.

We needed an e-commerce platform that everyone in our small business could use, work with, and make changes as needed. It does make it straightforward to update content and products, but makes any sort of in-depth web development more difficult.

The partner eco-system for Magento is awesome. There are a number of extensions that provide easy to add functionality.

The upgrade from V1.x to V2.x is a major upgrade.

Magento Enterprise natively contains many useful features for E-commerce. A large array of available extensions allows for many different types of functionality to be brought into your store, albeit with some customization required to make things work in your Magento setup. Enterprise support is helpful and responsive, and they are diligent with security updates.

Documentation on security patches can sometimes be a bit limited. Magento has a steep learning curve, and even simple frontend design updates require a relatively deep knowledge of the App. MVC background is very helpful when going about developing custom modules.

Magento is a great one-stop shop for E-commerce transactions. With proper server and caching setup, the App is able to handle high traffic. Its been a good way to handle online transactions for my company.

It let's you customize your design , it's flexible, it's easy to add new products on the fly via an import. Also you can edit, add images easily and change the inventory on the fly as well.

It doesn't have good shipping options for Canada, no sequencing (drag and drop), it takes too long to do cross sell and up sell. The standard reports could be better.

We are making our brand available to more people and we are creating more awareness at the same time.

I am an experienced user of shopping cart software and would rate Magento high for everything BUT customer service. Their app store is awesome and lots of great plugins to help with growth and ease of use.

Like I said, Magento rates high for everything BUT customer service. If you have an agency to help you build and manage the site, then this is the platform to use. If not, then you need to look elsewhere.

The best thing about Magento is that it has A common dashboard that helps navigate through each sale With ease. I like the part of the reports better because It gives me more insight into the sales that have happened over the past period of time. I customize the period of time to see the results that I am looking for. As we run digital marketing campaigns it's easy to see how they are translating into sales and how many have just been cart dropped. Blogging is an important tool for me and it's easy for me to format and write blogs continually.

The features take a lot to set up and it is also difficult for me to understand the backend process of Magento. Sometimes because of the setup flaws, "it shows no records found message". To set it up it takes extra time and technical support for me. I am Into digital marketing and I need to correct the SCO to see the sales and see how the programs are running. It is also difficult to set up a nice template for customer feedback or to follow up with the customers. I wish it was more user friendly in terms of formatting and features it has.

It gives me fast sales sales results. I can easily make changes to the website and improve the titles and content in more time. Gives me the most sold product and its details. Gets all the customer bases in one list which can be exported into CSV or XML. It also enables me to track the clients who have moved to the cart and added products to it - And I can easily follow up with the clients by extracting an email list in no time.

I like that you can easily manage all aspects of your store in Magento. Products, promotions, website content, product categories, etc.

I dislike the lack of reporting in M1. This may be from a lack of set up when first joining the platform but we have not been able to pull good reports or analytics in Magento.

E-Commerce store. It's easy to make changes with WYSIWYG pages.

Magento has many features for business to business websites. Such as being able to limit which customer types are able to view and purchase sensitive products. Also allowing self service of accounts and orders to customers is a beneficial time saver for internal employees. The ability to have multiple Stores is also a plus. There are a some great implementation partners out there that are very capable and willing to help launch and support your Magento instance. Very rarely does the website go down. I believe we have had one instance of down time in a couple of years.

It seems Magento has a tough time with supporting customers. For example - requesting additional data storage took a couple of weeks. Often times when a support ticket is created the first answer is to 'escalate' the ticket. Which adds more wait time to the ticket actually getting resolved. We are finding most programmers have a difficult time learning Magento. If going with this product you will either want a certified Magento developer on hand or hire an implementation partner. Magento releases upgrades pretty much quarterly which is good from a security point but becomes cumbersome. In the Magento community there are many optional extensions. The problem with the frequent upgrades, not all extensions are compatible with the upgrade which can cause errors on the website.

It is nice to have the website hosted externally/cloud based. The less the company has to maintain an internal server for hosting the better. Magento also has the ability to restrict sections of the site through admin. Meaning a group of customer service people can be restricted from editing content management. That can be left to the marketing group.

Magento Commerce 1 makes it easy to manage products, categories, and page content all in the CMS, as well as create customer segments based on customer attributes.

Magento is inflexible when it comes to product grid arrangement and isn't great about editing the header or footer on specific pages.

Greater customer record management, easy product management. Product pages are easy to set up.

Magento definitely gets the job done, no doubt about that. There's a lot of in-depth details, you can even manage your newsletter subscribers from there and do a lot through various extensions.

Honestly, Magento's inventory system is horrible. Can't express this enough. Our company has done manual inventory to try and override this, and even though we turn Magento's inventory off, it finds a way to turn itself back on and undo all the hard work we've done.

We use magento to take customer orders, which is crucial to our business. Without it, we wouldn't have an e-commerce platform.

The order processing functionality in Magento is very easy and user-friendly. Invoicing, Canceling, and Returning orders is quick and straightforward. I also like the the UserID function within product listings which helps us label products and manage our listings.

The merchandising functionality in Magento Commerce leaves much to be desired. Improvements could include - sold outs automatically falling to the bottom of the category while retaining merchandise order on the page, disabled/enabled and quantity information appearing in the tile view of merchandise categories, as well as product export from categories.

Magento is the base of our E-commerce business, allowing us to upload, manage, merchandise, process orders, and sell products.

Magento BI actually syncs with Google Analytics and leverages that data, along with data from many other platforms: Facebook Ads, Mixpanel, NetSuite, Salesforce, Trello, and Zendesk (to name only a few). As a marketer, this is HUGE. Instead of checking each separate platform, all data is collected and available to analyze in Magento BI. You no longer need to worry about running cross-platform comparisons when Magento and Google Analytics sales data doesn’t match.

Da y to day problem

The layout is professional looking and using it for day to day tasks is second nature to me now.

Sometimes slow and there are certain features that don't make it clear what they are for.

On hold orders, change of address, questions and reviews from customers, avatars, adding products to blog posts.

I like that the sales/ecommerce portion is fully integrated right away.

If you do not constantly update you will fall so far behind you won’t be able to get it up to speed and functioning properly.

Magento has a lot of features, some great themes, and frankly makes a professional-looking ecommerce website that makes our company seem much bigger than it is.

Many of what you might consider basic features are only available as third-party plugins and while they may work great individually, they frequently don't play well together. If you do not have a dedicated developer, be prepared to pay a not-insignificant amount to hire someone to work on your site. If you only need a simple site, this won't apply to you, but then you also have no reason to use Magento when simpler, more stable products are available.

We outgrew our previous ecommerce platform and we made the move to developing a Megento-based site. Our business has a wider range of products and services than most, and the smaller platforms were not configurable enough for our needs.
